Contemporary Courtyard Garden Landscaping

This tiny garden was a depressing sea of cracked concrete paving. The client wanted a courtyard with loads of lush, architectural planting and hot colours. She wanted a place to sit and a great outlook from the house. Practical considerations included the ability to get her wheelie bin from the back door to the rear passage along the back of the garden.

The new garden landscaping is absolutely stunning and the client loves it. The garden was visually widened by setting the scheme at an angle across the garden. A small raised bed was created using concrete blocks with a smooth, rendered finish. This was planted with a large hardy palm (Trachycarpus fortuneii) and colourful perennials (Dhalias, Hemerocallis, Crocosmia) and other architectural plants and grasses to create the desired look.

Other garden landscaping included green slate paving and black granite setts to create the edgings for the other planted areas and the diagonal detailing in the paving. A ramp was installed to facilitate the moving of the wheelie bin.

The garden was designed by Linsey Evans who has commissioned Greg as landscape contractor for many of her gardens.
