Contemporary Garden Landscaping on a Steep Slope

This garden had many problems, it is long and narrow and on a very steep slope. The design addresses both problems using horizontal lines to break up the length and narrowness of the garden, and terraces to create flat, useable levels in the garden.

The new garden landscaping enables the client to make full use of the space without too much maintenance.

The walls are reinforced concrete blockwork with a smooth, rendered finish, painted in an unusual pale mauve colour. The paving is a contrasting black Limestone for a crisp, contemporary look. The lower seating area immediately outside the patio doors is a decked terrace with some formal clipped topiary in contemporary planters. The smaller upper seating area, enclosed with a single line pergola that provides privacy from neighbours, is a lovely quiet spot to enjoy a late evening drink.

The garden was designed by Linsey Evans who has commissioned Greg as landscape contractor for many of her gardens. One of Linsey and Greg’s main specializations is designing and landscaping steeply sloping sites.
